Wheelchair Accessible Transportation in the
West Kootenays.
Your driver comes to your door, helps you to the vehicle, secures your chair properly, and helps you through the door of your appointment.
Call and book your ride. You will know the price before you agree to anything.
Short notice is welcome.

Listed by Interior Health among transportation options for patients, including the West Kootenay.
Licensed by the BC Passenger Transportation Board. A West Kootenay base since 2025.
Booking a ride
One Phone Call Away.
You have an appointment to keep. Booking transport should be a simple call.
Through the door
Your driver comes to your door, not the parking lot or driveway. They carry the bag, walk with you to the vehicle, and take you through to the clinic desk.
Your chair, secured properly
Rear entry ramps and certified tie-down systems for manual chairs, power chairs, scooters and walkers. You stay in your own device if that is what you prefer.
Your fare before you go
We quote your exact door to door fare when you book, so there is no meter running and nothing to work out at the end of a long day.
Short notice is welcome
When the clinic calls on Thursday about a Monday appointment, call us. There is nothing to register for first and nothing to set up in advance.
Evenings, weekends and long days
Appointments that finish after the working day, procedures that run over, and returns when you are tired and just want to get home.
Every trip, one provider
The appointment in Trail, the specialist in Kelowna, the treatment cycle, the flight out of Castlegar. Same team, same standard, no re-explaining.
On the day
What to Expect
1
Your driver arrives and comes to the door
They help with the coat and the bag, and they walk with you to the vehicle. You are not managing a driveway on your own.
2
Your mobility device is secured
The ramp comes down, the tie-downs go on properly, and the seatbelt is fastened before the vehicle moves.
3
You are taken through to the desk
Not dropped at the entrance. Your driver takes you in, and if you need a hand back out afterward, that is part of the trip.
4
Return trip home
If your appointment runs long, call us and we will adjust the pickup. Appointments overrunning is normal and it is not a problem for you to solve from a waiting room.

Our drivers are trained in mobility support and passenger assistance. They are not paramedics and we do not provide medical care. We carry passengers who are medically stable and travel seated or in their own mobility device.
Travel Assistance Program
Travelling Out of Town for Care?
NOW Shuttle is a transportation partner of the Province of British Columbia’s Travel Assistance Program, known as TAP BC. It is the only ground carrier in the province offering both wheelchair van and sedan service under the program.
- Approved TAP travellers pay 33% less than the regular fare.
- An approved companion travels at no charge. The person who comes with you is covered.
- It applies when your doctor sends you out of town for specialist care not available in your community.
Two conditions matter. You need a completed TAP form from your referring doctor or nurse practitioner, and a TAP confirmation number. Both have to be arranged before you travel, not after. That is the most common reason people miss the discount, so ask at your next appointment.

Treatment schedules
Going Every Week? Book the Same Slot Every Week.
Chemotherapy, treatment cycles, physiotherapy, regular clinic visits. We hold a standing time so you are not starting from scratch each week, and so you stop re-explaining your situation every time you book. Standing slots are limited by the number of accessible vehicles at our West Kootenay base, so if a schedule is starting soon, call before it starts rather than after.

Not Ready to Book Yet? Ask for a Ride Plan.
If you are unsure whether this will work for you, say “I’d like a Ride Plan” when you call. There is no charge, no deposit and no obligation, and you hang up with three answers.
1
Your chair, confirmed to fit
Tell us the make and model of your wheelchair, power chair or scooter, and whether you transfer to a seat or stay in your device. We confirm the ramp and securement will carry it.
2
Your exact fare
Door to door fare confirmed when you call so there are no surprises.
3
Whether the Province covers a third of it
We check your Travel Assistance Program eligibility on the call and tell you exactly what to ask your doctor for.
Before you book
Questions People Ask
Will my power wheelchair actually fit?
Most do. Our vans have rear entry ramps and certified securement for manual chairs, power chairs, scooters and walkers. Tell us the make and model when you call and we will confirm the fit before you book anything. If it will not fit safely, we will tell you and point you to someone who can help.
What if my appointment runs long?
Call us and we will adjust your pickup. Appointments running over is normal and it is not a problem you need to solve on your own from a waiting room.
Can someone come with me?
Yes. There is room for a family member, a friend or a support person. If you are approved under the Travel Assistance Program, an approved companion travels at no charge.
Can I bring my walker, oxygen or other equipment?
Yes. Tell us what you are bringing when you book so we send the right vehicle.
What does it cost?
It depends on the distance, the vehicle and the assistance you need, which is why we quote your exact fare when you book rather than publishing one number that would be wrong for most trips. There is no charge for asking.
Do you drive in winter?
Yes. Our drivers are based here and drive the Kootenay and Salmo passes through the winter in vehicles maintained for these roads.
Do you take stretcher passengers or provide medical care?
No. We are a non-emergency, non-clinical service. We carry passengers who are medically stable and travel seated or in their own mobility device. If you need a paramedic or a stretcher, tell us and we will point you to an operator who provides that.
How far ahead do I need to book?
Short notice is welcome and it is one of the main reasons people call us. Standing weekly appointments are worth booking early, because those slots are limited.
I am the family member, not the passenger. Can I arrange this?
Yes. Call the same number. We will confirm the fit, the fare and the Travel Assistance Program eligibility with you, and we will keep the passenger in the conversation rather than talking around them.
Book your ride
Call and we will sort it out on the phone.
Someone picks up. Tell us where you need to go and when, and we will confirm your vehicle, your fare and your pickup time.
Prefer we call you? Leave your details below. Tell us your community, where you need to go, and what mobility device you use, and we will call you back with your vehicle, your fare and your Travel Assistance Program answer.
For a medical emergency, call 911. NOW Shuttle is a non-emergency service and does not provide medical care or monitoring.
